Since 2013, the Global Living Wage Coalition has been at the forefront of driving knowledge-based living wage action in supply chains. Following the GLWC’s restructure into two independent but complementary entities (the Anker Research Institute and GLWC Action Network), the coalition is expanding!
New members bring significant opportunities to extend the Coalition’s thinking and action into new sectors and supply chains, and to strengthen opportunities for learning and collaborative thinking about strategies to achieve progressively higher wages.
The Action Network welcomes Fair Labor Association
Today, the GLWC proudly welcomes Fair Labor Association into its Action Network. Fair Labor Association works with companies to improve working conditions around the world and have made brilliant progress on measuring living wage progress across the manufacturing sector with its members.
On a recent project focused on China and Vietnam, their work with brands, suppliers, and workers resulted in an average 57% net wage increase for workers in the case study. FLA continues to test methods to improve wages for workers through pilot projects, focusing on purchasing and production practices to help improve wages in multi-buyer factories. FLA’s award-winning Fair Compensation Toolkit – adapted from the Anker Research Institutes’ approach to living wage – is used by over 50 companies in the fashion industry to measure their living wage gap in apparel and footwear supply chains. We are excited to work with the team at FLA to help them continue their efforts to close the wage gap across supply chains around the world.
