Seafood processing

An enormous share of the shrimp and seafood that is consumed in Europe and the United States is sourced from Asian countries. The industry supports a female-dominated, often low-skilled workforce that is often paid through piece-rate payments. Traditionally, this pay structure has created difficulty in understanding how payments match up to a living wage and often results in near minimum wage conditions for a historically under-supported population.

The importance of seafood processing and the seafood industry overall to countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia makes it crucial to understand how progress can be made and measured against living wage benchmarks.
